Manuel Silva Acevedo was born in Santiago, Chile in 1942. His books of poems include: Perturbaciones (1967), Lobos y ovejas (1976), Mester de Bastardía (1977), Monte de Venus (1979), Terrores diurnos (1982), Palos de ciego (1986), Desandar lo andado (1988), Wölfe und Schafe (1989), Canto rodado (1995), and the artist’s books Houdini (1996), and Quedar en la tierra (1997). Suma alzada, an anthology of his work, was published in 1998. He is the recipient of several prestigious grants and awards, and he is considered to be one of the most important contemporary Chilean poets.
